The overview starts with the first Rhine bridge in North Rhine-Westphalia, the Rhine bridge Emmerich, just before the border to the Netherlands.

The Emmerich Rhine Bridge has been undergoing extensive repairs since 2019. The final phase of the repair has now begun and is scheduled for completion in 2024.

The Duisburg-Neuenkamp Rhine bridge has major structural damage and is being replaced by two new bridges. Construction of the first new bridge started in 2019.

The bridge is no longer able to cope with increasing traffic loads. At present, it is still unclear whether the landmarked structure will be replaced by a new building or relieved by an additional bridge.

The south bridge is in poor condition due to its age. From September 2023, the bridge is to be closed to trucks with a total weight of more than 30 tons. Currently, no decision has been made on whether to build a new bridge or to carry out extensive refurbishment, although refurbishment is likely to be economically unattractive.

After damage to load-bearing components of the bridge was discovered in 2018, a new construction has been in planning since 2020. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2029. In particular, the significantly increased truck traffic has led to the damage.

Year completed: 1964
Traffic on the Rhine bridge has already been very restricted for years due to severe structural damage. Construction of the first of two new bridges began in 2017. The first bridge is scheduled for completion at the end of 2023, while the second bridge is scheduled for completion at the end of 2027. Due to quality deficiencies, construction was interrupted for one year in 2020 to 2021.

The Rodenkirchen bridge was widened on the north side by a twin structure from 1990 - 1994. However, it is foreseeable that the two bridges will no longer withstand the increasing loads in a few years. A concrete plan for the intended successor does not yet exist (as of 05/2023).

Year completed: 1966
The bridge has only a limited remaining useful life and will have to be replaced in the foreseeable future. Construction of a new bridge is not expected to begin before 2034.
km 654,9: Kennedy Bridge (Bonn)

Year completed: 1949
The Kennedy Bridge was widened from 18.00 meters to 26.80 meters and extensively repaired in 2007-2010.
km 651,4: Konrad-Adenauer-Brücke (Bonn)
Function: Road/Autobahn (A 562)
Year completed: 1972
The next bridge structure upstream are the remains of the Remagen Bridge, but they are already in Rhineland-Palatinate.
